Our Story
Deep Roots in Durango & A Legacy of Fishing
Durango Fly Fishing isn’t just a guide service—it’s a continuation of a legacy that spans generations in Southwest Colorado. Our roots in the Durango and Piedra River area go back to 1880, when my family helped lay the groundwork for what Durango is today. Over the years, much of Durango has changed—but one thing has remained constant: our love for the rivers and the fish that call them home.

My family has been fishing these waters for generations, with my grandfather and his father being especially skilled anglers. For the last 25 years, I’ve continued that tradition, learning every riffle, pool, and bend of the San Juan, Animas, and the surrounding waters.

What We Stand For

At Durango Fly Fishing, we believe that fly fishing is more than just catching fish—it’s about respecting and protecting the waters we love. We’re passionate about teaching proper stewardship, helping anglers understand not just how to fish, but how to give back to the rivers that provide so much. We care deeply about the health of these ecosystems and believe in responsible usage so that future generations can enjoy them just as we have.

Whether you're a seasoned fly angler or just getting started, we’re here to share our knowledge, respect for the sport, and love for this area. Let’s fish, learn, and protect these incredible waters together.
