San Juan River Fishing Report – Early Spring Conditions Upper Quality Water (Near the Dam)-Fishing has been strong in the mornings, with red and orange larvae producing well until around 9 AM. After that, fish transition to pupa and emergers, but the bite slows as they move deeper. Midday, focus on larvae, leeches, worms, and scuds to target fish holding lower in the water column.

Texas Hole-Mornings have been productive for streamer fishing, with some fish rising to midges and dries. That said, fishing deep is the best bet, especially around ledges and the river bottom. Go with larvae, worms, eggs, and leeches (olive and black have been solid choices).

Lower Quality Water-Downstream action has been phenomenal in the mornings, with fish stacking up in faster water. On warmer days, fish are breaching the surface, enjoying the first big mayfly hatches of the season. Dry fly fishing is on, especially in the evenings when the hatch intensifies.

Weather Outlook & Booking InfoWith warmer weather coming next week (highs in the 60s–low 70s), now is a great time to get out on the water!
